My Alaska Life
Went beachcombing today. Stopped and played around on some driftwood. Others have been there before us. We saw bear and moose prints side by side in the sand.

Jeff is so good at cleaning hooligan that he not only fillets them but he also takes the skin off for me. He doesn’t mind eating the skin but I don’t like the skin. I’ve never heard of anyone else ever taking the skin off and I don’t think Jeff had ever done it until I asked him to try. It’s pretty hard to fillet and skin a hooligan because they are such little fish. I mutilate them when I try but Jeff gets these perfect little fillets. I dip them in flour, fry them in oil and salt them and they come out tasting like potato chips. It’s a once a year tradition.

Holligan are in! They are the first fish to come up the river. They are fun to catch and I always look forward to seeing them pass by. Jeff is good at cleaning them even though they are so small.

I was sitting down by the river taking pictures of eagles so I had my camera in hand when this beaver swam right towards me. I was standing very still and he didn’t see me at first. I managed to get a few pictures before I moved a little and he noticed me. He made a big splash with his tail and under water he went and then started swimming away from me. I love seeing beaver but Jeff doesn’t. They nibble on his trees along the bank so he doesn’t like them hanging around.

I love hanging out by the river watching the wildlife. There’s so much to see. Here’s a moose that strolled by on the beach and the the eagles are always flying nearby.

I love this time of year except for 2 things: mosquitos and bears. We don’t have either one all winter long and it’s nice. Then as soon as Spring comes they both come out. I’ve already had so many mosquito bites. I haven’t seen any bears yet but rest assured they are out. We saw quite a few last year.

Jeff and I worked on cleaning out the raspberry patch today. It’s always my job to cut back all the old canes and rake out all the debris and Jeff hauls it away for me. t worked a couple hours today wearing my insulated overalls. I had a bit of a heat stroke. Will have to find something else to wear tomorrow to protect me from thorns. No need for insulation anymore. It’s getting up to 60 degrees these days.

Another month has gone by. The flower moon of Spring was out this morning and it was gorgeous.

Since the boat was out of the water today we worked in the yard instead. Jeff raked the yard and I raked out garden beds. There’s lots of work to do around here in the Spring.

Jeff had to pull the boat on shore to keep it from getting hit with ice which is still coming down pretty thick. I enjoyed watching all the ice sparkling in the water as it passed by. Got a few interesting pictures at sunset.
