Is your yeast expired? Do you need to go to the store to buy more or is it still good? There’s an easy way to check it.
To find out if your yeast is still active: Add 1 tsp sugar and 2 1/4 tsp of yeast (1 pkg) to 1/4 c warm water. I also like to add a tsp of flour but you don't have to. Wait 10 minutes. If the mixture bubbles and develops a yeasty aroma, the yeast is still good. I have attached 2 pictures. The first pictures shows the yeast I used in my recipe. It was expired but still very active. I dumped the whole thing in my recipe. The second picture shows another batch of yeast I had that was expired but older. It was a little active but I didn't use it. I threw it out.
