The temperatures have been getting into the 50’s in the afternoons and early evening which is starting to slowly soften things up on the river. Here’s a pic from a few days ago.

Saw a glimpse of the Northern Lights with some pink in them. I have trouble taking night shots with my camera but this pic gives you an idea. They are pretty and they dance around in the sky coming and going…

This beautiful coyote came close to the cabin on a foggy Susitna morning. He stood there for a few seconds and let me get a photo then ran off across the river again into the fog.

The burbot lines hadn’t caught any fish for days and then Jeff pulled out these two. One of them was the second biggest we caught all season, 26 1/2″. Jeff decided to end burbot fishing for the year on a good note and pulled up the lines for the season. In all we caught 34 burbot this Spring which we felt very grateful to get. I fried these 2 up and we enjoyed it with some homemade tarter sauce and a glass of white wine.

Here we are stocking up on water last minute before the river gets too soft to cross to the spring. It’s quite an operation. We filled two sleds full of 5 gallon buckets using a hose that Jeff hooked up to the pipe that comes directly out of the ground. You can see how clear and clean this water is. Once we get it back to the cabin we put it in a 50 gallon barrel to use during break-up.

Jeff made this groomer which he uses to groom trails. Pretty handy tool. We have snow trails all over around the cabin and on the river which we use to get from place to place in the winter. Pretty soon the snow is going to melt and the snow trails will be gone for another year. I’m looking forward to water and grass!
