A good friend of mine has apple trees that get the biggest crabapples and regular apples. She invites me every year to pick some. They’ll made good jelly and apple pies!

Here’s fireweed from earlier in the summer in bloom and then recently all bloomed and seeded out. Big difference in the colors from summer to fall.

Hunting season ended and although Jeff and a few of his friends spent lots of time out in the woods looking they didn’t get a moose this year. They did see some cows and calves and a smaller bull they didn’t see the right size moose for shooting. Jeff always says that’s why they call it hunting and not catching. He enjoys being out in the woods anyway, it’s his favorite place to be and you can see why. It’s beautiful. I love fall time.

We’ve got a mice family at the cabin who love our potatoes. We found quite a few mice bites in them. When we were digging up the last of our potatoes we caught a couple mice red handed. Abigail chased them off. We still ended up with lots of potatoes. These are yukon golds and russets.

It snowed in Anchorage last night leaving the ground covered in white. We usually don’t get snow in the city until the middle of October. It warmed into the 40’s and melted later in the day. But it looks like it’s here to stay on the mountains. It won’t be long before it’s here to stay in town too.

In between all the gardening, it is hunting season and Jeff is going out every day that the weather is decent looking for moose. He didn’t see anything during bowhunt season but rifle season is open now so there’s still a chance to get some meat for the freezer.

Here’s our second field of potatoes being harvested. Jeff cut an area in the middle of the grass and planted them and they grew great. We grew lots of red potatoes in this field.
