My Alaska Life
I’m always amazed to see people out biking on the frozen Big Susitna River. It’s hard to snowmachine out there! Here are pics of 3 women out there. Tough gals if you ask me.

I was looking at my pics of Iditarod mushers passing by on the trail last weekend and thought Lisbet Norris’s team of Siberian Huskies were worth sharing. She’s the only mushers running all Siberian Huskies. Beautiful dogs aren’t they?

Celebrating with friends out on the river. Fireworks, bonfires to keep warm and roast marshmallows and hotdogs on, drinks, sledding and snowmobiling and snowmen.

Watched Iditarod Mushers go by on their way to Nome. Here’s a few of our favorites: Martin Buser 4 time champion, Hugh Neff running those beautiful white dogs, and Dallas Seavey, last years winner and 5 time champion.

It was a pretty snowy day. Caught this moose hanging out in a blizzard. The snow didn’t seem to bother him much but he got up and walked off a bit when he saw us.

The river is our road once it freezes. We drive our snowmachines on it during winter which usually is through the first week of April. It’s March and the river is already softening with all the warm weather. I let Jeff lead the way down the trail. If he can make it then I trust that I can too! It’s hard work maneuvering through all the icy slush. It takes some muscle.

After spending hours shoveling the camper off, Jeff shoveled the snowmachine trailer also. So much snow it took him another couple of hours. I spend a couple hours shoveling out the parking spot. Wet, heavy snow about a foot deep Even shoveling a foot of this snow is a lot of work. My arms were sore afterwards. You can imagine how sore he was.

Jeff shoveled off the roof of the camper so it wouldn’t cave in. We’ve had so much snow this winter.

It’s Fur Rondy time! There are all kinds of events going on in Anchorage during Fur Rondy. One of my favorite events to watch is the World Championship Sled Dog Races. This year the weather was warm and the mushers and the dogs had a lot of problems running on the ice that accumulated. Usually there are 3 heats but this year they cancelled the 3rd heat but out of 2 heats the clear winner was Blaine Streeper from Canada who won both heats. He and his team are hard to beat.
