We took a drive up to the Hatcher Pass Mine, where gold was mined in the early 1900’s.

Some animal got in the raspberry patch and destroyed half of the patch, knocking down the plants and eating them. We never saw the animal but it was probably a porcupine since they are vegetarians and would be most likely to eat raspberry plants. Since whatever it was is still around we may lose more plants before the berries ripen. So sad.

These 3 flowering plants are beautiful but also edible and medicinal. Yarrow, wild roses and chamomile. I like to make tea with them and wild rose petals make good jelly.

I love Alaska cottongrass. I’m not sure if you call it a flower or not but I think they are so beautiful!

It’s been an unusual summer so far. Lots of rain, clouds and cooler weather than usual.

There’s a lot of different kinds of salmon but sockeyes are the best, also called red salmon for obvious reasons. The river has a lot of pink salmon in it but it’s the reds we’re excited about catching.

I also dug out the fennel, green beans and the squash out from under the weeds in order to give them a better chance to grow.

It was a lot of work uncovering the weeds off my garden plants. Here I am weeding my sunflower bed. It was a hot day but I put the bug net on so the mosquitoes didn’t bite me. I literally had to find the sunflowers and carefully remove all the weeds from around them. It took a couple of hours of weeding just for this bed. That’s what I get for letting the weeds get so bad. We’ll see how they do now. Behind my sunflower bed is the raspberry bed. I had really pruned them in the Spring but they came back strong. We should get a lot of raspberries this year.
