My Alaska Life
Jeff had to pull the boat on shore to keep it from getting hit with ice which is still coming down pretty thick. I enjoyed watching all the ice sparkling in the water as it passed by. Got a few interesting pictures at sunset.

Jeff got the boat out and put it in the water. There’s still quite a bit of ice coming down the river but he gets around it pretty well.

Ice and debris, even whole trees, came down the river off and on all day today and into the evening. It’ll take days for the river to clear out it’s whole length. Everything upstream has to come by us to get to the inlet. It’s so exciting to watch.

Ice and debris came down the river today in waves. We’d get an onslaught and then it would clear then more would come and then it would clear. It was fun to watch. In the evening tonight the ice in front of the cabin finally cleared and now we’re ice free. At least for now. Hopefully no more ice will come downriver and pile up in front of us. Jeff wants to get the boat in the water soon! Here are pictures of the change in the view in front of us. The first one was from beginning of April, the 2nd one was from just this past week before the river broke and the 3rd one was from tonight. What a difference a month makes!

The river broke up today. It was very exciting to watch. The first picture is what it looked like this morning and then the 2nd picture is what it looked like after it went out It all happened so fast! It was really spectacular to watch. The 3rd pic is of the beautiful sunset we had tonight. You can see the river running in the distance. We still have ice in front of us but we’re hoping it melts soon and we can get the boat in the water.

At night we use a generator to power lights When the generator goes off it’s lights out! So we buy these cheap strings of solar lights and put them on the buildings around the property. They power up all day and then when the sun goes down they automatically come on. It helps to have a little light to find our way in the dark. Jeff replaced some on the cabin earlier today and they are already lit up tonight.

Mosquitos are back! They are a real problem in the backwoods. We put the screens back up on the porch today to keep the mosquitos out. At least we’ll have one place to sit and enjoy the fresh air without getting eaten alive.

Jeff keeps all the machinery in good working condition. Look at the engine on his 2009 Ski-Doo. It looks like new. His mechanical abilities come in real handy out here. Before he put the snowmachines up for the year he gave them a good tune up.
