My Alaska Life
Jeff got his boat in the water a few days ago. As you can see there are still icebergs on the bank as well as in the water.

Playing on icebergs that landed on our sandbar when the river broke up.

Used a snowmachine one last time to help tow the boat out over the snow in the yard but not enough snow to drive it more than a few feet any more so we put them up for the summer. Jeff drove them on pallets to keep them off the ground.

Now that the river broke Jeff is ready for boating season. Still lots of snow in the yard but he wanted to get his boat out of its’ winter storage spot. He tried pulling with just the 6 wheeler but the tracks just spun so he hooked up the snowmachine to the the 6 wheeler and I drove the snowmachine while he drove the 6 wheeler and we both pulled on it. Worked like a charm.

Me and Jeff standing on the ice on the bank after breakup. In the distance you can see the river running past but the icebergs have piled up for 50 yards between the bank where we are and the open river. It’s going to take a lot of warm weather to melt all this ice so we can get the boat in the water.

The swans are back and they are so beautiful! Right now the lakes are still frozen so they can’t begin nesting. They found this piece of open water on the Susitna River and landed for a few hours then flew off. Once they start nesting in the lakes we won’t see them on the river any more. I love seeing them while it lasts.

Hearts and butterflies…it’s looking more like Spring every day. Although we still have lots of snow, it’s melting some every day, at times making designs as it melts. These butterflies are everywhere. Not sure what kind they are but love seeing them flying around.

It’s a treat watching wildlife on the river. This pregnant mama moose walked along the frozen sandbar along the river looking for a place to cross. She finally walked in the water and took a swim still looking for a place to cross. She went in circles quite a few times then when she couldn’t get up on the ice in the river she went back to the shore and climbed back into the forest.

Jeff got the 6 wheeler out. It’s kind of an in between time. Some of the yard and trails are down to dirt but some still have lots of snow. It’s not good to drive the snowmachines on dirt so we’re going to put them away for the year but there’s still so much snow left that it’s hard to get around on the 6 wheeler either.
