The river is starting to show a lot more water. It’s going to be breaking up very soon!

One of the crafts I like to do out here is make walking sticks. I saw sticks to the right length then whittle the bark off and sand them. Next I’ll decorate them.

The snow is still 1 or 2 feet deep on the river as well as much of the property around the cabin so we are still using the snowmachines to get around. However, on a few of our snowmachine paths the snow has disappeared and it’s like 4 wheeling on snowmachines.

It doesn’t look like we’ll be going out on the river again. Here’s the trail leading from the cabin to the river. Jeff just drove out on this trail to the river less than a week ago. It’s melting quickly with the warming weather. The river may break in the next week or so.

It still looks a little like winter here but the mosquitos know it’s Spring! They are big and out for blood. Jeff put up the mosquito screen over the porch so we have a place to hide out from them.

Jeff and I were out in the woods and he brushed an alder as he passed by and all this pollen came off. He didn’t even notice it. I asked him to purposely hit a branch so I could get a photo of it. He never saw it come off the branches but I could see it and it came out clearly in the photo. Proof that if you have allergies it’s the season for pollen. Whether you think you see it or not it’s there!

Saw this coyote crossing the river. It was moving fast but got a few good pictures when it stopped and posed for me for a moment.

We thought we had it made once we shoveled the path to the outhouse down to the ground. However, that solution just led to a new problem. We had some sections of our path with grass to walk on. It was a little wet and sloshy to walk on but it was better than deep snow. However, a big section of the path turned to mud and deep water which was actually just as much of a problem. We used some lumber we had and made a bridge and a plank to walk on but they weren’t near long enough. So Jeff cut up some firewood into stepping stones and now we can walk from log to log over the mud and the deep water! There’s always a solution!

Jeff and I finally got a path dug to the outhouse. We’ve been picking at it for a couple weeks and we got down to the ground now except for a snow bridge we left for the snowmachine to get across. We still have lots of snow in the yard. Here’s a pic of Jeff standing by the cabin where all the snow slid off the roof all winter. It’s still very deep!
