We left the garden on its own for a few weeks and the chickweed took it over. I couldn’t even tell what was growing underneath all the chickweed. It took me days to get the chickweed out and figure out what else I had growing in the garden.

We’ve had so much rain that many of the rivers are flooding. At the Landing where we put our boat into the Susitna river the water is very high. The water was over the tie offs where we normally dock the boat. Usually the water the 4 feet below the tie offs and there is a steep bank. Instead of needing a long rope to reach the tie offs John had to hold the rope as the boat was sitting right on the road. Some of the tie offs were even under the water.

Brrr you guys it’s getting chilly at night and in the mornings. It’s in the 40’s! Last night I got under the covers at bedtime and did alright but this morning I got cold when I got out of bed. I got into my jeans and a long sleeve shirt and still couldn’t get warm so I started a fire in the woodstove for the first time in a long time.

We have a lot of bees this year. I spent awhile trying to photograph them pollinating the fireweed. They are so busy flying from one flower to another it’s hard to catch them on film but I finally got a pretty good picture.

Stocking up on homemade raspberry jelly. I strain out all the seeds. It’s so good and so pretty.

Went to Talkeetna yesterday with a friend and picked blueberries. They were beautiful berries but not real sweet yet. They say that blueberries get sweeter after a cold snap. We didn’t pick too many. I might go back in a few weeks and pick some more.

Wild roses grow all over Alaska. I picked a bunch of the beautiful pink petals and made rose petal jelly. It’s so pretty and delicious!
