My Alaska Life
The river went out but it left huge icebergs on the bank in front of us. We make it a yearly tradition to climb an iceberg.

It’s starting to look like boating season. This was taken this morning. The river really cleared out a lot overnight. Lots of stuff still coming down the river during the daytime though.

The river started breaking up yesterday and continues to break up today. Finally!

Saw these Snow Geese flying over, in search of a nice place to spend the Summer.

It’s definitely Spring when the Robins show up. This one was busy collecting materials for it’s nest. Butterflies are showing up now too.

We had so much snow this winter and it’s taking awhile for it all to melt. However, the trails in some places are down to dirt so it wasn’t very good on the snowmachines to drive them over dirt so Jeff decided it was time to start driving the 6 wheeler. As you can see in the pics the trails aren’t in ideal condition for the 6 wheeler either. We’re in an in between time.

I take lots of pictures of our resident eagles. This is one of my favorites from this Spring.

It’s quite a climb up and down the hill from the cabin to the river and now that we can’t take the snowmachine on the river we have to walk. I really wanted to get down to the river to take pictures but the snow was too deep to walk in. Jeff put me up a rope to help me get up and down without slipping and we dug footholes in the deep snow. It’s worth the climb. It’s such a pretty view!

On the cliff overlooking the river we have some old chairs set up to sit in. They got buried in snow this winter and now that it’s Spring they are starting to show again. Can’t sit in them yet but maybe soon. At this point we’re still driving the snowmachine up to look up top. You can see the river is still covered in snow and ice but it’s starting to soften more every day as the weather warms.

The snow has been getting softer and it was getting very hard to walk on it to get to the outhouse. I kept sinking through so I started parking the snowmachine outside by the door so I could jump on it and drive to the outhouse when I needed to go. I also started shoveling a path from the outhouse to the cabin – a little every day. It’s quite a workout to shovel a path through 2 feet of packed, heavy snow for that distance. Jeff got out and helped by starting at the other end and meeting me in the middle. We finally have a nice path on solid ground!
