My Alaska Life

There are a lot of people that use the river in the wintertime. Many individuals and groups keep the trails marked and groomed all winter long. One thing you learn is to watch for stakes put out to warn of dangers. Here are a few examples of hazards marked on the trail. If you see 2 stakes in an X they mark a hazard like a tree sticking out of the river or a hole or drop off. In another example 4 stakes painted with florescent orange warn of a large hole in the river.
