The Matanuska River
The Matanuska River in the Matanuska Valley is 75 mile long running along the Glenn Highway past the towns of Chickaloon, Sutton, Palmer and the Butte flowing into the Knik Arm of the Cook Inlet about 10 miles past Palmer. The Matanuska Glacier meltwater flows into the Matanuska River making the water freezing cold. Even so it is a popular river for rafting in the summertime. It's Class II to Class IV rating makes it a challenge in places. I've never rafted it but it should be fun if you're the adventurous type. Just make sure to wear a dry suit!
